Featuring Ellen Shindelman Kowitt.  Ellen is Director of JewishGen’s USA Research Division and National Vice Chair of a DAR Speciality Research Task Force.  She is past president of JGS Colorado and Greater Washington D.C. and served in the IAJGS Board for three years. She is a Professional Genealogist.

“Suddenly Jewish" by Barbara Kessel, Director of the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York.

This YouTube lecture  describes  her book factually and humorously.  It takes place at a Barnes and Noble Bookstore in New York City. Kessel attempts to find  perspective on this phenomenon by surveying the experiences of a large sampling of adults who discovered at some point that their ostensibly non-Jewish families were, in fact, Jewish. Kessel divides her subjects into three groups: the all-too-familiar categories of hidden children of Holocaust survivors, Jewish children who were adopted by non-Jews, and the crypto-Jews who descended from the victims of the Inquisition and forcible conversion.
